Kobe
Bryant was out for most of the 2014-15 NBA season. He is set to
return to competitive play this year. However, he might find himself
in a position different from the one he is used to playing.
Los
Angeles Lakers coach Byron Scott said Kobe Bryant, who plays shooting
guard to small forward for most of his career, might take on the
power forward role this 2015-16 NBA season.
"If
we don't get another guard, then Kobe's in that mix," Scott said
in an interview with NBA.com.
"I'm
kind of going through those scenarios. But not necessarily as far as
who's starting and who doesn't. ... I think [Bryant] will play more 3
than 2. If we can get him at the elbows and at the mid-post, the more
effective he'll be.”
Scott
argue though that change in Kobe Bryant's position is more on keeping
him effective on the floor.
"I
don't think he needs to be using up the whole 94-foot floor. If we
can cut that down some, I think that saves his legs as much as
possible. But if we can get him where he operates best, which to me
is elbows on each area, top of the key, at the pinch post, at the
mid-post, then I think he can be real effective for us."
Los
Angeles Lakers are expected to play small ball this season as most of
their effective players are guards. The no. 2 draft pick D'Angelo
Russell is point guard and last year's All-Rookie team member is
playing shooting guard.
