The 2015-16 NHL season's Winter Classic will feature the Montreal Canadiens and the Boston Bruins at the Gillette Stadium on the New Year's day.
NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman joined officials from the Boston Bruins and Montreal Canadiens on Wednesday to announce that the Patriots' arena will be the venue for the two teams' regular season outdoor game. It will mark the Bruins second time to partake in the event as the home team, making them the only squad to do so. They previously hosted the annual match in 2010 at the Fenway Park.
Bettman claimed that the three organizations, Bruins, Canadiens and Patriots are three of the most successful organizations in the NHL with 34 championships. The Canadiens have the most at 24, but the Patriots are the defending Super Bowl champions.
Furthermore, the commissioner added that the league extended its partnership with Bridgestone for another five years.
Hours after giving an impassioned speech on the deflategate issue, Patriots owner Robert Kraft also spoke at the ceremony.
