WTA announces 2016 calendar

WTA announces 2016 calendar
WTA officially published their 2016 calendar after its board of directors has approved it. The principal organizing body of women's professional tennis will be having a total of 56 events with the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro and the four Majors excluded.

The organization will hold a record of nine events across Chinese Mainland, Hong Kong and Taiwan which saw great market improvements. It's a great number compared to only a couple of tournaments (Beijing and Guangzhou) during the 2012 season.

"Our mission is to deliver a premier, compelling global sport entertainment experience that engages our fans around the world," WTA Chairman & CEO, Stacey Allaster said. "As the WTA expands to new markets, our goal is for fans to witness the most inspirational sport entertainment experience on Earth. Our players compete for the ultimate year-long prize, the Billie Jean King Trophy presented to the champion at the BNP Paribas WTA Finals Singapore presented by SC Global."

WTA's long-term strategy in the Asia-Pacific region includes not only China, but also features Singapore which was given the hosting job of the annual season-ender WTA Finals from 2014-2018.
