Valentino Rossi puzzled by Marc Marquez's drop in rankings

Prevailing world No. 1 Valentino Rossi is as equally baffled as the rest of the world by Marc Marquez's decline in the MotoGP rankings.

The 22-year old Spaniard currently lies in the 5th place of the MotoGP 2015 World Standings. He is 49 points behind Rossi and 12 points short of tying Ducati's Andrea Iannone at the 4th spot.

Rossi shocked by Marquez's drop in rankings
Marquez started the year by being the favorite to duplicate his Championship in 2014, but the Repsol Honda driver failed to live up to expectations. So far he has only won in the Circuit of the Americas and got the second podium finish in the Spanish motorcycle Grand Prix.

"The situation of Marquez is unbelievable now," Rossi said to autosport.com. "Nobody expected it - that after sixth races, he'd be in fifth position, but we're speaking about Marc Marquez and a factory Honda.

"I think they have some problem now - technical, balance of the bike or something, but they can recover very very fast and come back as strong as last year. So it's not closed for sure."

Marquez will compete next in the upcoming MotoGP Gran Premi de Catalunya on June 14.
