Robin van Persie 'relaxed' about staying in Manchester United

On August 17, 2012 Robin Van Persie transferred to Manchester United from Arsenal for an initial £22.5 million. He will receive an additional £1.5 million if the team wins a Premier League or Champions League title within his stay.

With more than a year left on his four-year deal, his stay at the Old Trafford is being questioned. Reports suggested that he is linked to a club move this summer, which he immediately shrugged off.

The 31-year old Dutchman has had a tough 18 months with the Red Devils, having found the net just a dozen of times last season. Nonetheless, he is firm and determined that he is still capable of playing in the top flight and hopes to continue till he is 40.

"Am I worried? No, I'm totally relaxed. I have a contract with this club until 2016. Things could change now, but that all depends on Manchester United not me. Believe me, I'm relaxed – I'm not going to be part of a puppet show." he told a group of reporters.

"In August I'm 32. But I still have the ambition to play for another eight years. In a few years' time I may have to accept that I will no longer play at the very highest level. I don't think that moment is coming now. I still feel very, very fit.

"Playing in the first-team is very important for me. This is why I will probably step down one level when I am 36 or 37. But not now. Whenever I have been fit at United I was playing in the first team all the time. People talk about my injuries, but I've only had one this season."

Aside from playing as a striker for the United, Van Persie is also the Netherlands football team captain.
