Without a doubt, Rafael Nadal is one of the best tennis players of his generation. However, it is a common knowledge that he excels more on clay courts than on any other surfaces. His nine French Open titles compared to his five other Grand Slams can attest to that.
After not being able to defend his crown in Paris, Nadal nabbed his second title of the season in the Stuttgart Open. This is the third title for the Spaniard, having claimed it twice when it was still being played on a clay court in 2005 and 2007.
It only took an hour and a half for the 29-year old to beat Serbia's Viktor Troicki 7-6 6-3.
“It’s a very special title,” Nadal said after the match. “To win a title here is very good news for my game and for my mentality too. At this point of the season, every victory is important and every title means a lot to me.”
The former world's No.1 and current No.10's victory in the Mercedes Cup is only his second grass success after winning at Wimbledon in 2010.
