Rafael Nadal cruised into the last four of the Mercedes Cup after beating Bernard Tomic 6-4 6-7 6-3.
Nadal joined the tournament as part of his preparation for the Wimbledon, which will commence later this month. The Spaniard just recorded his second win in two days after his huge disappointment in Paris. He suffered defeat to current world number one Novak Djokovic in the quarterfinals of the Roland Garros and broke his nine-title streak.
The Real Madrid supporter took the opening set with a single break. However, the second set was tougher for both players who traded breaks and fought in a tie-break where Tomic prevailed.
The final set saw Nadal improving and trampling his Australian opponent easily. The latter threatened a comeback, but couldn't break back.
The Grand Slam champion will be facing Gael Monfils in the semifinals to which he said, "Gael is a tough opponent.
"If you don't play your best you are not going to win.
I guarantee I'll be fighting to be in the final."
