Stuttgart have announced the signing of former Borussia Dortmund stopper Mitchell Langerak.
The Australian has agreed to a three-year deal tying him with former Bundesliga rivals until 2018.
Langerak had spent five seasons in Dortmund and appeared 10 times for their reserve team. He started his senior career with the Melbourne Victory in 2007 before transferring to the German side in 2010.
The 26-year-old goalkeeper had a hard time gaining a regular number one spot and had to be satisfied with an understudy role to Roman Weidenfeller. In spite of his 17 appearances with the BVB last season, the arrival of former Freiburg goalie Roman Burki may push him further down the pecking order.
With the Reds, Langerak will only be competing with newly signed Przemyslaw Tyton from PSV Eindhoven. The starting place has been vacated by the departure of Sven Ulreich to Bayern Munich.
"Langerak has a positive attitude and proved in Dortmund that he is a big goalkeeping talent," Stuttgart manager Alexander Zorninger said to a group of reporters. "He moved ahead of a world champion like Roman Weidenfeller at least temporarily last season.
"He is a really good keeper. I watched him several times and have seen only one match in which he did not look so good, and that was the cup final, so I told [VfB sporting director] Robin Dutt, 'If we can get him, bring him in immediately.'"
New Stuttgart coach Zorniger has yet to decide who will be donning the No.1 jersey.
