The Asian Football Confederation confirmed that FIFA, the worldwide football federation has banned Indonesia from playing in any international competitions. The decision came after continuous efforts by the Indonesian government to suspend their national football association (PSSI).
FIFA has already sent letters to Indonesia for months condemning their actions. The issue stemmed from a conflict between the Indonesian Professional Sports Body which is an agency within the Ministry of Youth and Sports and PSSI. Said institutions had disagreements on which teams were to participate in the Indonesia Super League. This didn't sit well with FIFA thus forcing them to ban the PSSI after the ministry had not the met their demands.
“During the terms of the suspension, PSSI loses its membership rights … and all Indonesian teams (national or club) are prohibited from having international sporting contact, which includes participating in FIFA and AFC competitions,” FIFA Secretary General Jerome Valcke said in a letter.
The resolution will halt Indonesia's bid in the 2018 World Cup and AFC Asian Cup 2019. However, since the 2015 Southeast Asian Games in Singapore has already commenced FIFA has allowed them to continue playing in this tournament.
