Chile are in a great position to end their 99 years of frustration in the Copa America. They have clinched one of the final spots after their 2-1 victory over Peru.
Once again the host country played a controversial match with Arturo Vidal escaping a sanction after an early scuffle. The Peruvians played with only 10 men after Carlos Zambrano's dismissal in the 20th minute. He was sent off the pitch after being handed a red card when his momentum unintentionally carried him into Charles Aranguiz's back. He previously got a yellow in the 7th minute after an altercation with Vidal.
Before the half-time, the crowd went wild with an opener from Eduardo Vargas. He managed to net the ball from three yards, although television replays showed that the he was slightly offside.
An equaliser from Peru came an hour into the match when Paolo Guerrero successfully got through Chileans defence and his cross was turned into an own goal by Gary Medel.
Peru's calm lasted just for four minutes, when once more Vargas took aim from 30 yards and landed a beautiful goal.
Chile will try to nab their first ever Copa America title against the winner of the semi-final match between Argentina and Paraguay.
