The NBA All-Star Game in 2017 will be hosted by the Charlotte Hornets according to a source of ESPN's Brian Windhorst.
The recent development has been reported earlier by The Charlotte Observer and The Associated Press.
A news conference is scheduled to officially announce that the Hornets won the bid. NBA commissioner Adam Silver and Charlotte's team owner Michael Jordan will head the talk.
The North Carolina city submitted their proposal last summer, indicating that they are willing to spend more than $30 million to upgrade their arena.
The last time Charlotte hosted an All-Star Game is in 1991 at the demolished Charlotte Coliseum.
Last December, Silver even acknowledged that the Hornets have a good chance to host the special event.
"Personally I'm very excited about coming back here. I don't think there's any question it's going to happen," the 53-year-old said. "Just a matter of what year."
The annual affair will include the much-awaited All-Star game, a slum-dunk contest, a 3-point shootout, and a clash between top rookies and sophomores.
