Blue Jays’ Josh Donaldson leads MLB All-Star voting

Josh Donaldson leads MLB All-Star voting
After multiple campaigns asking fans to vote for Blue Jays' Josh Donaldson for the All-Star Game, the third baseman easily topped the second-last release of voting results.

The efforts of Canadian actor Stephen Amell who led a social media campaign for Donaldson and Don Cherry of the Hockey Night in Canada's who talked about the 29-year old during the Stanley Cup final weren't all for naught.

Blue Jays had even went as far as handing blue ponchos at the Rogers Centre last week pertaining to Donaldson's twitter name @BringerOfRain20.

The former Oakland Athletics player has gained the most vote for the week, garnering more than 2.7 million online votes, moving past Mike Moustakas and Salvador Perez of the Royals.

For this week results, four players received more than 2 million votes: Donaldson, Angels outfielder Mike Trout (2.31 million), Tigers first baseman Miguel Cabrera (2.25 million) and Jays outfielder Jose Bautista (2.1 million). Donaldson's teammate Russell Martin was fifth for the week at 1.67 million.

Last Sunday, Donaldson insisted that making the all-star team is not his primary concern, but he appreciates all the support.

"I really try not to think about it too much. It’s great and I’m really appreciative of all the support that I’ve gotten. Honestly, what I just try to focus on the most is trying to win games."
