Thomas Tuchel hopes to begin a 'new chapter' at the club

Borussia Dortmund manager Thomas Tuchel hopes to begin a 'new chapter' at the club after replacing long-term boss Jurgen Klopp.

The 41-year-old, who took a year-long sabbatical after leaving Mainz last summer, has signed a three-year deal at Signal Iduna Park.

Dortmund finished seventh in the Bundesliga last season after flirting with relegation and Tuchel admits he is relishing the challenge of returning the club to the top of the division.

Speaking at his unveiling, Tuchel said: 'I'm really happy to be here at Borussia Dortmund as head coach.

'I wanted to train a top Bundesliga club, with big tradition, that can challenge for German honors. That's possible here.'

'It's great to now be part of a club structure that I can rely on. I'm really thankful for that.

'Dortmund are at the forefront of the German game but we have some ground to make up on the other teams and that is a challenge.

'It's extremely important that we rise to the challenge of making up that ground. It's about hard work, courage and tenacity. The top four need to constantly feel our presence.'

Tuchel was also quick to praise the impact of Klopp, who has confirmed he will take a break from the game before joining another club.

'Jurgen Klopp had seven unbelievably successful seasons here,' said Tuchel. 'We will now try to create a new chapter at a high level.

'Klopp created a great foundation. We must build on that. I have a great desire to build and create my own image here.'
